Neil Cohn, Ph.D. (2006-2012)
Neil's work investigates the similarities between the comprehension of drawing and sequential images with that of language. In particular, his research asks "how does the mind/brain create meaning out of sequences of images?" Neil has proposed that, analogous to the structure of sentences, sequences of images are organized using a narrative grammar. Since graduating from Tufts, Neil has been working at the Center for Research in Language at UCSD, and has published the book The Visual Language of Comics: Introduction to the Structure and Cognition of Sequential Images (2013, Bloomsbury).
